Denman Prospect is Australia’s first suburb to have minimum requirements for solar installation on all dwellings.
What are the minimum requirements?
Every house in Denman will have a minimum 3.7kW system that will generate approximately 4000kWh of clean electricity. This will reduce emissions from fossil-fuelled generation electricity by approximately 3.7 tonnes (about the same as an average Australian car).
Can I add a solar battery?
You can also add a solar battery to give you greater control of how you use your energy including being able to store your electricity to use in the evenings and avoid the higher costs at peak times.
What do I need to know when designing my home?
When designing your home you should consider the layout of the solar panels and incorporate it in your home design. Check the resources section below for more information.
Can I choose an alternative solar provider?
It is a requirement for you to pay for the 3.7kW system that we provide at settlement regardless of an approval to install an alternate solar array.
The process for installing an alternative solar system of your choice is as follows:
- Please provide our design team with details of your proposed system including colour, kW, manufacturer, warranty period. A brochure or link to the website would be helpful
- We will consider your proposed system and let you know whether it meets the minimum requirements for Denman Prospect.
- If our design team approves your proposed system, once you provide us with the evidence that you are installing the approved system (i.e.; copy of the paid invoice from the supplier/installer), we will arrange for the General Solar Amount you paid at settlement to be refunded to you.
- We will also require evidence that your solar system, as approved by us, has been installed when you apply for the return of your $5,000 compliance bond. Please provide the Electrical Safety Certificate from ACT Government on completion.
