5 incredible features coming to Denman Village Park

Directly across the road from Denman Village Shops, the first stage of a new, groundbreaking play and relaxation space is coming to life.

Located in the heart of Denman Prospect, Denman Village Park is set to become a regional park for the entire Molonglo Valley.

The park is designed for Canberrans of all ages, and includes the following incredible features:

1. An astronomy-themed playground.

The night sky has always played an important role in the design of Denman Prospect, and that theme continues with a new playground within the park. An eight-metre high play structure with a rounded dome roof – just like that of the nearby Mount Stromlo Observatory – will form the centrepiece of the new kids’ playground.

The dome will incorporate multi-functional play features like climbable nets, ladders and walls. Kids will be able to learn constellation patterns as the night sky will be reflected inside the dome.

As well as the towering dome, the park will include a flying fox, a water play area, swings and a sandpit for accessible and inclusive play.

2. Shaded barbecues and picnic area.

Sausage sandwiches after a long play at the park will be easy thanks to the park’s modern, shaded barbecue facilities. The barbecues are located at the bottom of a winding walkway, next to a picnic area with accessible furniture for sitting and eating, or relaxing.

3. An elevated boardwalk.

Ramps and most walkways throughout the park have been designed with accessibility in mind. A wide, elevated boardwalk will wind around the playground area. Shaded pathways with canopy tree coverage and staggered seating will connect Denman Village Shops to Denman Village Park.

4. So much shade.

You’ll never struggle to find a spot in the shade at Denman Village Park. Shaded seating areas are abundant, along with other facilities to make your park trip more enjoyable: from drinking fountains to bike racks and bins.

5. A bathroom area inspired by Canberra’s bus stops.

Inspired by a retro Canberra bus stop, the toilet block structure at Denman Village Park will feature a unique rounded concrete roof and intricate brickwork. The accessible toilets will cater to all individuals and will be fitted with a baby change table.

Capital Estate Developments project manager Bridget Bence says Stage 1 of the park has been expedited, recognising the importance of delivering infrastructure to the growing Denman community.

“Future stages will include even more features to relax, play in and enjoy, like kickabout fields, courts, and ponds,” Bridget says.

Stage 1 is expected to be complete in summer 2024/25.
