We go beyond the front door to one of Denman Prospect's most stunning interiors

A Hamptons style home is one that captures the coastal vibes of Long Island’s east end with sophisticated roofing, cool colours, striking weatherboard and plenty of decorative embellishments.

In 2021, Denman Prospect resident Kristina Jukic set out to create her own Hamptons oasis in the middle of Canberra. Her incredible attention to detail, combined with husband Adam’s superior carpentry skills, helped shape a home that looks like it’s been magically transplanted from Long Island to Seekamp Street, Denman Prospect.

From its wainscotting detail and washed out marble benchtops to wooden wall panelling and warm grey tones, every aspect of the Jukics’ Hamptons-inspired house was carefully considered by Kristina.

“I’ve always tried to be unique in the way I design or organise anything in my life,” Kristina says.

“I think putting things together and making it accessible, affordable, and different is what sets my style apart.

“I like putting textures together, which is evident throughout this house both within construction and interior design.”

The Jukic family home was designed by architects R Inventive, who worked collaboratively with Kristina and Adam to bring their vision to life. For years, Kristina dreamt of owning her own Hamptons home, juxtaposing traditional and ultra-modern design elements.

It’s a dream she’s definitely realised.

“I love fashion, home design and making things look perfectly structured,” Kristina says.

“I wanted people to feel comfortable and luxurious the second they walked in the door – even the entry is a true representation of my style and truly makes me happy.”

With a budget to adhere to for interior design, Kristina created a moodboard of the items she loved, ignoring expensive brand names where she could. She also did extensive research on labour and material costs.

“It’s amazing what you can find for the right price,” she says.

“My advice is not to worry about a brand name – it’s the look that matters, and ensuring its quality is obviously to a good standard.”

With two children under three, Kristina says her home had to be beautiful but also functional.

“For example, the island bench in the kitchen with an open-facing stove is where I can easily entertain or watch TV while cooking and keeping an eye on the kids,” she says.

“It truly ties in the home and brings everyone together.”

But the mud room is her biggest joy.

“I love the mud room thoroughfare into the house, and really appreciate its purpose for leaving all shoes and bags out of the way,” Kristina says.

“The mud room provides excellent access to the laundry to drop dirty clothes, and we can bring groceries right in to the kitchen

“It was one of the greatest design decisions we made.”

Are there elements of the home that bring Kristina delight?

“Absolutely,” she says.

“Those small details that you can’t wait to show friends and family are what makes the months of planning and building all worthwhile – to finally relax in your new home and be surrounded by the things you chose is a remarkable feeling.

“I love our wooden beaded chandeliers from Beacon Lighting. Tying in black elements was the modern twist we incorporated into the Hamptons theme, and the chandeliers provide a warm and welcoming glow as the focal point of the entertainment space.”
