Denman Prospect provides another $140K to help fight homelessness in the ACT

Denman Prospect have provided another $140,000 to social enterprise Homes for Homes to reach almost $400,000 in donations since 2015.

0.1 per cent of all land sales in Denman Prospect goes toward the Homes for Homes initiative to fight homelessness. Through this initiative, we forecast that donations will reach over $1.5m over the life of the project.

Nick McDonald Crowley, Director Project Delivery, Denman Prospect, said Capital Airport Group is honoured to provide ongoing support to such an important cause for those in need in the Canberra community.

“We are pleased to be giving back to our community with every sale we make at Denman Prospect,” Mr McDonald Crowley said.

“We not only donate 0.1 per cent of all land sales in Denman Prospect, which will eventually include over 4,000 dwellings, but a Homes for Homes registration is included in the title for every property in the suburb. This means every time a property is sold, a 0.1 per cent of the sale price donation will go to Homes For Homes. This also applies to the builders developing multi unit sites in Denman Prospect. They will make the 0.1 per cent donation to Homes for Homes every time they sell a dwelling in their development.”

We have also enlisted the support of our community partner, the Canberra Raiders, who have donated $100 for every point scored at a home game since 2016. This has seen an additional $100,000 donated to the initiative over the last four years.

“The money donated to Homes for Homes has so far been used to provide support to Havelock Housing Association with $200,000 to purchase and manage a property for women aged 55 or over experiencing homelessness, and $300,000 has gone to Community Housing Canberra to develop and manage a new group home with 24/7 support for adults with mental illness.”

Steven Persson, Homes for Homes CEO, expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support and partnership that Capital Airport Group provides Homes for Homes and the Canberra community.
‘Homes for Homes is truly grateful for the ongoing support of Capital Airport Group,” Mr Persson said.

“They have shown great leadership by undertaking to create Denman Prospect as ‘Australia’s first Homes for Homes suburb’. That decision has played a major role in Homes for Homes’ success in the ACT. This further donation of $140 000 is simply wonderful.”

“Already we’ve been able to grant $500,000 towards two projects that will see seven people housed in the ACT due to the support from members of the community like Capital Airport Group.”

“The donation from Denman Prospect will go directly toward increasing the supply of social and affordable housing in the ACT. Capital Airport Group and the community of homeowners in Denman Prospect have come together to support Homes for Homes and have played a major role in alleviating homelessness.”
