First look at Morning Dew, Denman Prospect's new cafe

If you’re a regular at one of Arthur Choi’s iconic Canberra cafes – think Coffee Lab or Coffee Grounds – you’re used to sipping an amazing coffee in the busy city centre or on a university campus. But that’s about to change.

Arthur has ventured just outside of the CBD, opening his new cafe Morning Dew on Monday at the Denman Village Shops. It’s the first cafe for Denman Prospect and overlooks the Molonglo Valley.

Morning Dew joins anchor tenant IGA Supermarket at the brand-new Denman Village Shops, with Club Lime set to open soon.

The view from the cafe was a big drawcard for Arthur, but mostly he just wanted to bring the hallmarks of his existing cafes – good coffee, food and warm service – to the residents of Molonglo Valley. Morning Dew will serve Ona coffee, and offer an all-day breakfast and lunch menu.

The menu includes vegetarian and vegan options and is highlighted by dishes like savoury Green Island Waffles for breakfast and a Beef Dew Burger for lunch. Smaller treats like carrot cake and almond croissants are delivered daily from bakeries across the region, including Three Mills.

“It’s a brand new menu we developed just for the area,” Arthur says.

“But because of our capacity, as a smaller cafe, we don’t want to do a big menu – rather than have a massive menu and do things on an average level, we want to do a smaller menu and do it well.”

Arthur expects weekends to be the biggest days at Morning Dew – “it’s when people are at home and relaxed, and have time to spend a few hours sipping coffee and eating” – and says weekdays will see the bulk of business coming from tradies building the new suburb.

Busy weekends at Morning Dew are a nice balance to the routines of his existing cafes, which are packed on weekdays by office workers and students.

Arthur says Morning Dew will be a “breath of fresh air” in his collection of cafes.

“Denman Prospect doesn’t have that ‘new suburb construction’ feel – it’s blessed with rolling hills, greenery and the arboretum,” Arthur says.

“And it’s also developed by the Capital Airport Group. I know what they’re about is quality, and I wanted to align with that.”

Morning Dew is located at Denman Village Shops, 1 Felstead Vista Denman Prospect.
Open Monday-Friday 7am-4.30pm, weekends and public holidays 7.30am-4pm.
